Is the Failure to Take Action Hindering Your Goals?
The failure to take action I believe is the number one preventer of people reaching their goals.
How many times have you thought of an action you’d like to take towards one of your goals, but you’ve presented to yourself excuse after excuse as to why you can’t move forward? You’ve found yourself drowning in these excuses for so long that the word action has now been changed to inaction?
I was here once too where I felt the excuses coming up in my mind of why I couldn’t take action on launching my course. It’s been on my mind for a long time and it just kept coming up over and over again, but I kept finding distractions that prevented me from taking my dream of launching it into reality of it being launched.
I was at the time and still am deeply passionate about this course that is documenting my process to people how I paid off over $70,000 in debt in 1 year in 2017. I know the impact that it could have on a lot of people because I have talked or seen a lot of people struggling with paying off their debt because they can’t determine a good plan to use to get rid of it.
I was caught in the perfection trap, believing that everything had to be just “perfect” before rolling it out. I was focusing on other things in my business, concentrating on the shiny object syndrome, branching out into something else, and taking my business in another direction.
Finally, I had to get my mind right and I began reviewing the successful people I’ve worked with and I realized that the only difference that allows them to be successful (after the obvious talent) is they had a great ability to implement and to take swift action on their goals. If you really take a step back and look at it, there is not a huge separation from those who are successful and those who are achieving their goals and those who are doing well and then those who are not. The biggest difference, if you really look at it is – TAKING ACTION.
They all had the same choices as you and I do. Take a step forward, putting yourself out there, and moving in the direction that you want to go because at the end of the day, we can always come up with a million different things on why something is not perfect. You can go back and forth all day, every day and you will always find something that will prevent you from moving forward.
Have you ever heard the saying of, “if you launch your product and it’s perfect when you launch, then you waited too long to launch…”? It’s true. I had to face this reality myself.
If there is something that you have on your mind that you are wanting to accomplish, just take action. Get your plan laid out on how you want to take action to whatever it is you are wanting to do and just start marking each thing off your list day by day and month by month.
It doesn’t matter how confident you are or what level you are, you are always going to have those excuses that creep back in, but the best thing you can do for yourself is just take action.
I remember when I first had the idea of launching my YouTube channel to document my getting out of debt journey, I just decided to go and do it. It was ugly. It was terrible. By no means am I an expert now or is it “perfect”, but I’ve definitely improved over time from the repetition of doing it and learning what works and doesn’t work.
But what if I would have never made that first video, that imperfect video? What if I never posted it on YouTube? I don’t think I would have ever had a YouTube channel and I definitely think it would have taken me even longer to pay off my debt because I think that starting the channel and the community behind it held me accountable.
I want to challenge all of you, if there is a podcast you’ve been wanting to launch, a blog you’ve wanted to start, a business idea that you’ve been thinking about, then I challenge you today to take action. It could even be something personal, a workout plan, a trip you’ve been wanting to take, or a diet plan.
Just do it. Get out of your own mind and out of your own way of trying to perfect the process and just take that first step forward in the direction of your dreams. It doesn’t have to be the best thing out there.
You are going to have to put forth the effort, but at the end of the day, you are going to feel so relieved that you have begun to mark things off of your plan.
